Heavy Civil Construction Equipment Operations Manager

Position Objective

Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for company equipment fleet, including maintenance operations, transport operations, facility operations, and construction support operations.

This role is responsible for maximizing equipment availability, controlling operating costs, improving operational efficiencies, supporting construction operations, and promoting a strong culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all fleet and equipment operations across multiple construction divisions over multi state area.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance, repair operations, inspections, and fleet readiness programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Develop, manage, and track departmental operating budgets.
  • Develop and track equipment maintenance budgets, operational forecasts, and cost analysis for corporate fleet.
  • Manage and execute equipment acquisition, replacement, rentals, and disposal.
  • Analyze equipment utilization, lifecycle costs, downtime trends, labor efficiencies, and operational performance metrics.
  • Lead and support implementation of operational technologies including maintenance systems, telematics, camera systems, GPS tracking, and related operational software platforms.
  • Supervise and develop staff, supervisors, technicians, and support personnel.
  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong vendor, manufacturer, and service provider relationships.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment and culture through compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, environmental, and company safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Competencies
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of leadership experience in heavy equipment maintenance, fleet management, construction operations, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction equipment, maintenance operations, and fleet lifecycle management.
  • Experience in developing and managing equipment maintenance budgets, operational forecasts, and cost analyses.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems, telematics, operational analytics, and technology integration preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and operational demands simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, reporting systems, email, and operational software platforms.
  • Ability to travel, when necessary, valid drivers license required.
