About this role

ESS Metron is looking for a Switchgear Assembly Supervisor responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the assembly department, ensuring the precise integration and wiring of electrical switch gear cabinets. This role manages the auditing of incoming fabricated and purchased materials to ensure compliance for UL891, UL1558 Low Voltage systems, and E348856 Medium Voltage systems, as well as associated control and relay cabinets.

This role coordinates the activities of assembly employees, ensuring that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with electrical quality standards. The Supervisor is a hands-on leader who drives productivity, maintains high workmanship standards (including torque and clearance requirements), and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Champion a Safety-First culture at all times.
  • Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department for assembly operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepare assembly schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications.
  • Review production and operating reports and resolve operational manufacturing to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Set up work cells for maximum efficiency and initiate any necessary changes in work cells to accommodate fluctuations in staff quantities.
  • Analyze electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and production schedules to determine assembly sequencing.
  • Track labor hours and production output; hold team members accountable to time-per-operation and performance expectations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and resolve interpersonal conflicts to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Responsible for effective and complete training and mentorship of employees, i.e. proper wiring techniques, minimum spacing requirements, hardware stack-ups, busbar handling and torquing, component layout, and UL compliance.
  • Coordinate with Lead personnel to ensure seamless transitions between mechanical assembly and electrical wiring phases.
  • Provide clear and effective inter-departmental communication in support of production operations, testing and qualification evolutions, and shipping of customer products.

What you'll have

  • Electrical Technology degree or Journey-level experience with 5+ years in electrical manufacturing/switch gear assembly and prior supervisory experience.
  • 2–3 years hands-on Epicor ERP (Kinetic or V10) experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Low/Medium Voltage switch gear construction and UL standards
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.
  • Familiarity with busbar fabrication/installation, electrical clearances, and calibrated torque tools.
  • Clear communicator of technical instructions to diverse teams; able to perform electrical load, torque, and production data calculations.
  • Strong real-time problem-solving skills with high attention to detail in component placement and wiring accuracy.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Physical: Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach into cabinets. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate large enclosures.
  • Environment: Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and industrial conditions.
  • Safety: Must be comfortable working around energized equipment (during testing phases) and enforcing strict safety protocols.
