Position: Lead Shredder Mechanic (Night Shift)

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly production, maintenance and repairs of all shredder related equipment.
  • Work with the management team to develop a strategy for working safely, efficiently and effectively.
  • Assign specific roles related to a repair to individual peers.
  • Promote safety with co-workers and have the ability to stop work when a potential unsafe act or condition is identified.
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, bearing shafts, head pulleys, tail pulleys, gearboxes, and safely perform hammer and mill liner change-outs.
  • Ensure all work areas are clean, tidy, and free from unsafe conditions at all times.
  • Assist the management team with planning projects by providing input and recommendations to initiate the safest, most efficient, and effective approach.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment to prevent failures before they occur.
  • Understand monthly shred commitments to the mill and assist with coordinating rail car shipments to reduce demurrage charges.
  • Understand the costs associated with specific repairs and their impact on the bottom line.
  • Mentor fellow employees by sharing skills and knowledge and encouraging feedback and input.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead the shredder team.
Requirements
  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience working on shredder’s.
  • 3-5 years in the metal/nonmetal mining industry will be an asset.
  • 3-5 years of welding experience.
  • D1.1 ability to push, pull and/or lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Must be fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to follow directives.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record required.
  • Communication skills: communicates clearly and listens carefully.
  • Occasional additional hours, including weekends, may be required depending on operational needs.
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate: $38 - $42.
