Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated Shelter Coordinator to provide rotating 30‑minute break time coverage for the Shelter program staff in the Denver Metro Area Shelters. The role involves traveling to assigned sites, managing the facility during coverage, and supporting multiple shelter modalities, including Safe Haven for chronically homeless women, a family shelter, a Grant Per Diem program for Veteran Families, and a shelter for older women.
The Coordinator will also assist in housing stability and support services, maintain safety and cleanliness, and develop knowledge in mental health and related specialty areas.
- Ensure program participants’ voices are heard and incorporated into programming.
- Maintain in‑depth knowledge of program requirements, referral processes, and best practices.
- Document all participant interactions and required eligibility and demographic information; use Service Point and HMIS.
- Maintain confidentiality and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Safeguard physical and emotional safety of participants; manage conflicts and coordinate emergency care as needed.
- Assist with general program facility maintenance, including cooking, cleaning, supplies, inspections, rule enforcement, and alarm checks.
- Train and supervise volunteers; complete tracking documentation and indemnity forms.
- Perform front‑desk duties: answer calls, take messages, conduct intakes, accept donations, handle mail, distribute bus passes or tickets.
- Mentor junior staff; provide training to assigned shift staff.
- Adhere to the Social Work Code of Ethics and perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Single‑staffed while on duty; responsible for participant safety.
- Regular stair climbing for perimeter checks and emergencies.
- Light lifting (rarely >50 lb).
- Permanent part‑time.
- Shift coverage required on all scheduled shifts, including holidays and inclement weather.
- On‑call protocol required if unable to cover a shift.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12 a.m.–4 a.m.
Locations$19.29–$20.00 per hour

- Associate’s degree in a related area or equivalent human services experience.
- One year of direct human service experience.
- Strong organizational, planning, and teamwork skills.
- Complete program credentialing (including criminal, civil background checks within 30 days of hire and fingerprinting).
- Willingness to obtain first aid, AED, CPR, and Narcan training.
- Colorado driver’s license and state‑mandated automobile insurance.
- Personal vehicle available for work‑related travel (mileage reimbursement available).
- Experience with chronic homelessness, severe mental health concerns, case management, shelter or milieu management.
- Crisis intervention skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and cloud‑based applications.
- Strong time‑management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
