About History Colorado/Ameri Corps

We are committed to serving all Coloradans and offer access to our state’s history through enriching experiences at eleven museums and historic sites, with dynamic and relevant exhibits and activities. We steward about 15 million objects, photographs, and archival resources that make up the State’s collection, and serve tens of thousands of learners of all ages through dynamic programs. We work with school groups and youth through field trips, day camps, and traveling programs across Colorado.

We are home to a free public research center, Colorado’s Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP), and the State Historical Fund (SHF), the nation’s largest preservation program of its kind. The History Colorado Ameri Corps Program addresses equitable K‑12 educational outcomes, quality history educational programming, and tools to preserve and share an inclusive Colorado history.

Ameri Corps Member Perks Include
  • A total living allowance up to $13,500 (pre‑tax), distributed in biweekly installments of $540 over the 50‑week service term.

Description Of Job Position Summary

The Ameri Corps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high‑impact educational programming to K‑12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands‑on History programs, field trips, and other student‑focused educational experiences.

As capacity allows, the Ameri Corps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

Terms of Service
  • Represent History Colorado’s Hands‑On History Expansion Program at the National Western Center.
  • Serve an average of 5‑10 hours per week for a minimum of 675 hours over the service term.
  • Directly supervised by the Education Coordinator with additional oversight by the Program Manager.
  • Service term:
    September 8, 2026 – August 20, 2027.
  • Mandatory orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at History Colorado Museum in Denver.
  • Additional availability for out‑of‑school programming:
    March 29 – April 2, 2027 (40 hours);
    Summer Camps, June – August 2027 (40 hours per week);
    One‑week holiday around July 4, 2027 (TBD).
