Economic Empowerment VISTA
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.
A force for humanity, IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity and hope to millions. If you're a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, come join us in positively impacting the lives of millions of people world-wide for a better future.
The Economic Empowerment VISTA will make meaningful contributions to IRC Denver's Economic Empowerment programs, advancing our work supporting both near and long-term outcomes of stabilization, poverty reduction, and community integration for refugees and asylees. This is a service opportunity with Ameri Corps and IRC Denver. Review description carefully for more information and application instructions.
Member Duties:
The Economic Empowerment VISTA member's projects may include drafting programmatic policies and procedures for review by IRC staff, researching and assisting in development of frameworks to monitor programs and outcomes, and developing resource-mapping systems. The VISTA member's efforts will also include designing surveys or other client feedback tools and reviewing client feedback to increase agency understanding of and ability to be responsive to the communities being served.
VISTA project areas may include employment skills development, financial capabilities, English language learning, technology use support, and navigation of systems necessary for basic needs access including food, health, clothing, childcare, and transportation. The VISTA member will help further develop systems and monitoring tools; evaluate current programs, analyze data to capture unmet client needs or unreached clients; develop curriculum and program materials;
conduct resource mapping; create referral resource banks; provide written reports on recommendations.
While VISTA assignments do not include regular direct service work, the VISTA members will have the opportunity to substantially contribute to programs that are responsive to clients' needs and interests, following an approach that combats barriers that systemically exclude communities IRC serves.
The VISTA member's efforts will result in a greater capacity for the organization to hold its various Economic Empowerment programs accountable to clients' unique needs so it can best support their ability to stabilize, integrate in their community, and thrive.
