The Korbel Ameri Corps Program provides opportunities for students enrolled at the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs to serve their communities. Through their service, Korbel Ameri Corps members will support public service organizations improving food, housing, healthcare, employment, and economic stability among Denver residents. Korbel Ameri Corps members will acquire sector-specific knowledge and skills, preparing them for future careers in public service.

Organization Overview:
It is the Red Cross’ mission to help people affected by disaster meet their emergency needs that include shelter, food, clothing, and health and mental health services.

The International Services (IS) mission is to reconnect families separated by crises, help to rebuild communities devastated by disasters, and work alongside health organizations to eliminate global disease. The International Services of the Red Cross works every day to provide relief.

Service Position Summary:
The Ameri Corps member will support the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department, with a specific focus on strengthening Mass Care readiness and capacity. Their primary role will be to enhance the region’s ability to effectively respond during disaster events by contributing to volunteer coordination, logistical preparedness, and program evaluation.

This position addresses a critical organizational need by increasing the Red Cross’s ability to deliver timely, effective, and equitable Mass Care services, while also enhancing community preparedness and volunteer engagement in high-risk regions.

• Receive a monthly stipend dependent on number of hours earned. For the 300-hour slot, receive $500 per month, for a total stipend of up to $3,000. For the 450-hour position, receive a monthly stipend of $562.50, for a total stipend of up to $4,500. The stipend is taxable and paid in equal increments every month throughout the term of service.
• Earn a Segal Education Award. For the 300-hour position, earn up to $1,565.08 upon successful completion of the term service. For the 450-hour position, earn up to $1,956.35 upon successful completion of term of service. This federal education award may be used to pay educational expenses at eligible post-secondary institutions or to repay qualified students loans.
• Internship credit from the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs for completing service.
• Leadership in the Public Service Sector Quality Credential, a certificate recognized by the State of Colorado, by completing service and enrolling in a 4-credit course at the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs on public administration and nonprofit management.
• Career and professional development opportunities, including training, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
• Ameri Corps alumni priority hiring with organizations that are part of Employers of National Service.

Essential Functions (Primary Responsibilities):

• Program Development:
  Assist with the design and implementation of new events and programmatic themes; conduct research for site visit preparation and determining programmatic needs; collaborate with community partners to determine community needs and further adjust Red Cross programming.
• Event Participation or Coordination:
  Assisting in planning or participating in mandatory events, such as community outreach or staff social activities; collaborate with team members to coordinate planning, preparation, and setup of events and other program materials.

  Leading presentations or training sessions critical to the position’s main functions.
• Critical Reporting or Data Entry:
  Inputting data or generating reports directly tied to the position’s essential outcomes; maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions, inventory, and other service activities.
