Community Essentials is part of the Division of Community Support and Engagement. As a department this team oversees the DU Food Pantry and Care Closet. As a team we understand this work as crucial to creating, providing, and sustaining a campus culture that supports faculty, staff, and students toward success in their educational endeavors.

Essential Functions:
  • Staff DU Food Pantry (DUFP) during operating hours
  • Use card tapper and appropriate software for check in process
  • Restock items throughout opening hours
  • Responsible for opening and closing duties
  • Capture feedback from DUFP users
  • Create volunteer work schedule for the DU Food Pantry
  • Train new student staff and volunteers
  • Maintain updated inventory of food and be familiar with items on storage shelves/refrigerator
  • Act as a main liaison between patrons and the DU Food Pantry
  • Coordinate food donation drop offs and check expiration dates
  • Manage partnership with Student Outreach and Support (SOS)
  • Responsible for the basic cleanliness of the DU Food Pantry and maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas
  • Ensure emails are answered in timely manner
  • Place work orders as needed
  • Assist in creating quarterly and annual reports
  • Design marketing materials and update social media
  • Create events in Crimson Connect (shopping hours)
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in communication and use of spreadsheet software
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse organization and efficiently manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to supervise student staff
  • Good judgment, problem solving skills, and discretion
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Required Qualifications

Current DU undergraduate or graduate student enrolled for the academic year.

  • Work-study funding, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office

Mostly office setting, but can sometimes be outdoors helping offload the delivery truck

Physical Activities

Stocking shelves, offloading delivery truck

  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds
