Volunteers are the heart of Nourish Meals on Wheels. As our Manager of Volunteer Services, you'll lead one of the most important parts of our organization, overseeing a volunteer program of more than 600 dedicated individuals who make our mission possible every day.
This hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, coordinating people and logistics, solving problems, and keeping daily operations running smoothly. Every day offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while leading, strengthening, and continuously improving a volunteer program that helps older and homebound adults remain independent at home.
What You'll DoLead and Grow Our Volunteer Program
- Recruit, interview, onboard, and train volunteers from throughout the community.
- Help prospective volunteers find meaningful roles that match their interests, skills, availability, and abilities.
- Facilitate engaging volunteer orientation and training that prepares volunteers for success.
- Oversee volunteer applications, background checks, and onboarding requirements.
- Build partnerships with businesses, schools, civic organizations, and community groups.
- Represent Nourish at volunteer fairs, speaking engagements, and community events.
- Develop volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies.
Coordinate Daily Volunteer Operations
- Manage volunteer scheduling for meal delivery routes, kitchen shifts, and special projects.
- Coordinate volunteers for special events, community outreach, fundraising activities, corporate volunteer experiences, and mission-driven initiatives throughout the year.
- Anticipate staffing needs and respond quickly to last-minute changes to ensure daily operations run smoothly.
- Ensure volunteers understand organizational policies, confidentiality expectations, food safety practices, and client privacy requirements.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, training documentation, background screenings, schedules, and communications using volunteer management software.
- Collaborate closely with kitchen, client services, and operations staff to support volunteers and ensure successful meal delivery.
- Exercise sound judgment when determining volunteer placements, balancing organizational needs with volunteer interests, abilities, and client experience.
- Step into daily operations as needed, including meal delivery or volunteer support.
Support and Engage Volunteers
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer culture.
- Build meaningful relationships with volunteers and recognize their contributions through appreciation, storytelling, and ongoing communication.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, providing encouragement, guidance, and problem-solving support.
Lead Program Growth
- Monitor volunteer engagement and program effectiveness, using data and feedback to identify opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with leadership to improve systems, streamline processes, and support organizational priorities.
- Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen volunteer recruitment, retention, communication, and recognition.

Qualifications
Required
- Passion for Nourish Meals on Wheels' mission and serving our community.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, staff, teams, or community programs.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex schedules and logistics while maintaining attention to detail and relationships.
