Youth Mentor – Aurora RISE
Aurora Community Connection Youth Mentors
Aurora Community Connection is a Colorado-based non-profit organization dedicated to developing the capacities of families, increasing access to resources, and promoting social equity. Aurora Community Connection (ACC) is seeking adults interested in mentoring high school participants.
Aurora RISE Mentorship is a program geared towards creating supportive, identity affirming relationships between emerging youth leaders (mentees) and trained adult or near-peer mentors who model leadership, wellness and civic engagement.
Key Mentor Responsibilities:
- Attend mentor training, complete check-ins, and assist mentees as needed.
- Attend bi-monthly workshops in person, assisting mentees' development of a community based project.
- Model leadership confidence, civic awareness, and communication skills through mentorship.
- Establish mentor relationships with 2-3 local youth (ages 16-21) participating in Aurora RISE.
- Help mentees identify academic, career, and community goals.
- Assist mentees' advocacy and self-expression in identity-affirming spaces.
- Strengthen capacity to support BIPOC and first-generation youth.
- Model inclusive leadership and allyship.
- Support youth-led projects and provide feedback or resources.
- Contribute to community equity efforts through intergenerational relationships.
- Support student projects by helping students set realistic timelines, offering check-ins and guidance.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with youth (12-18) in academic or recreational settings.
- Ability to commit to biweekly weekend participation over 9 months beginning mid October (4-6 hours).
- Commitment to Aurora Community Connection's values and goals.
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about community engagement and/or is involved in community based activities or volunteer work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma, Associates/ or Bachelor's Degree
- Familiarity with local community is a bonus!
Benefits:
- $23/hour, up to 12 hours a month
