Nurse II – Wheat Ridge Regional Center
This position is open to current Colorado residents only and will receive a temporary pay differential of 4% through June 30, 2026.
The Wheat Ridge Regional Center provides 24‑hour treatment services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Nurse II, you will provide specialized nursing services and supervise on‑duty Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Qualified Medication Administration Persons (QMAPs) in a group home setting.
Responsibilities- Triage and assess resident health issues; determine action, approve PRN medications, and respond to behavioral incidents that may cause harm.
- Travel to community homes or program settings as needed.
- Arrange and assist medical providers with physical examinations.
- Document provisions of services in accordance with nursing and agency standards and protocols.
- Transcribe medical orders and maintain electronic records.
- Supervise Licensed Psychiatric Technicians and QMAPs, ensuring compliance with nursing scope of practice.
- Respond to reports of acute illness or trauma; analyze data, consider individual aspects, and make decisions for intervention and treatment.
- Formulate and modify treatment plans for chronic and acute medical or psychiatric conditions.
- Supervise medication administration and the delivery of health care services by QMAPs, LPTs, and LPNs.
- Oversee workflow related to medication administration and scheduled health services; resolve nursing and health care issues.
- Provide oversight, training, consultation, and guidance on medication and treatment administration, blood sugar testing, ventilator and trach care, oral suctioning, and other health‑related tasks.
- Review Medication Administration Records and conduct observations to evaluate effectiveness of treatments.
- Conduct nursing skills review training as assigned.
- Develop and train medical protocols (e.g., seizure, diabetic, skin‑care plans) for direct care providers.
- Administer medications and treatments beyond the LPT/direct‑care scope, including IM and IV medications.
Additional responsibilities may be required to meet business needs.
Minimum Qualifications- Valid, active Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Colorado (DORA or eNLC).
- Two (2) years of professional nursing experience.
- Two years of full‑time inpatient nursing experience.
Additional appropriate education can substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Conditions of Employment- State residency required at the time of application and throughout employment.
- Drug screening; background and reference checks; professional license verification; physical test demonstrating ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical interventions; influenza and other vaccines required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Availability to work any shift, any day, and to travel to remote sites as needed; use of a state vehicle for resident transport required.
- Motor vehicle check if a state vehicle is used; valid non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license required.
- TB test required upon hire.
- Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated must disclose information and provide an explanation in the application; failure to do so may disqualify the applicant.
