Job Summary The Bariatric Coordinator oversees the clinical, operational, educational, and accreditation-related activities of the bariatric surgery program. This role serves as a liaison between patients, surgeons, multidisciplinary staff, and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The coordinator ensures compliance with and MBSAQIP standards while supporting high-quality patient-centered care throughout the bariatric surgery continuum.

Essential Functions:

  • Patient care coordination:
    Guiding patients through the pre and post-operative processes coordinating referrals, testing, consultation, and follow up provide education regarding bariatric procedures, nutrition, lifestyle changes, and post-operative expectations Serve as a primary contact for patients with questions and concerns and to serve as a patient advocate. (35%)
  • Maintain MBSAQIP accreditation and ensure compliance with all national/regional/local accrediting bodies and regulations and ensure program compliance with Denver Health policies. Assist with accreditation site visits, audits, and quality improvement projects. Monitor program policies, protocols, and outcomes. (25%)
  • Performs duties according to the professional accreditation standards, Denver Health policies and professional judgement. (5%)
  • Maintains Bariatric Program local patient database to include data-entry, reporting and troubleshooting. Ensures data is accurate and entered in a timely fashion. Tracks and manages bariatric patients through the process. Ensures patients are not lost to follow up and receive the appropriate post-operative care. (10%)
  • Coordinate patient group education sessions and maintain educational materials including handouts, binders, electronic documents, and videos and maintain bariatric website accuracy. (10%)
  • Professional, respectful, and timely response/communication with referring providers, patients, and all others inquiries to the bariatric program in all forms of communication. (5%)
  • Track clinical outcomes and quality metrics. Support data collection and reporting to MBSAQIP via the SCR. Identify areas for quality improvement using evidence-based practices. Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences. (5%)
  • Educate staff and community about obesity management and bariatric surgery. Participate in outreach and marketing projects. (5%)

Education:

  • Associate's Degree:
    Appropriate degree for healthcare field required

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years professional health care experience required

Licenses:

  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA
    - Department of Regulatory Agencies required
  • OR PA-Physician Assistant
    - State Medical Board required
  • OR NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA
    - Department of Regulatory Agencies required
  • OR DIETICIAN-Registered Dietitian Certification - CDR
    - Commission on Dietetic Registration required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and patient education skills
  • EMR documentation proficiency
  • Knowledge, interest and experience in program management preferred
  • Knowledge of MBSAQIP/ASMBS standards preferred
  • Experience with patient navigation, insurance authorization preferred
  • Experience with quality improvement projects preferred
  • Experience with support group facilitation preferred
  • Patient counseling and motivational interviewing

Salary

$83,100.00 - $ / yr
