COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE (CPW)
Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Wildlife Technician with general upkeep and improvements of the State Wildlife Areas in Grand and Summit Counties. Primary duties include invasive weed management, facility and equipment maintenance, fence repair and construction, operating and maintaining vehicles, trailers, ATVs, power and hand tools, data collection and record keeping, and answering wildlife-related questions from hunters, anglers, and the general public. These positions may also assist biologists when available.
  • Accept hunter-harvested deer and elk heads, collect data, payments, and samples for chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing. Drive relay routes to transport hunter-harvested deer and elk from collection sites to research sampling sites in all weather conditions. Training is provided on removing tissue samples for CWD testing and on mandatory inspections of hunter-killed wildlife.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work space between customers. Sell products to customers (wildlife licenses, refunds and duplicates, hunter education cards; parks products such as passes, OHV permits, snowmobile and boat registrations) and provide information in person or by phone. Additional duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license for operating a state vehicle
  • Work-site will provide some uniform items; employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office Suite, Google Apps)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and within a team
  • Must be able to hike long distances carrying tools or supplies
  • Must be willing and able to work outside in inclement weather
  • Must have experience with trailer handling and ATV/UTV operation
  • Must have a positive attitude toward the public, work, and coworkers
  • Must be able to lift 50–100 pounds repeatedly during a workday
  • Weekend and evening work may be required
  • Must be comfortable working with and handling dead animals
  • Applicants may be subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check
  • Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle
  • To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be reviewed for workers who have a State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or use a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
