Position: Quality Control Manager I

The Weitz Company is currently seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager to be located in Denver, Colorado and/or Telluride, Colorado.

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for providing direction and leadership on commercial construction projects and for the implementation and management of the project Quality Control Program.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage and implement the QC Program.
  • Work with the team to identify all definable features of work (DFW’s) for a three-step process (verification of materials, initial inspections, and follow-up inspections).
  • Manage and coordinate the three phases of quality control and documentation, including coordination of work performed by third party testing and laboratory personnel, and any other inspection and testing personnel as required.
  • Utilization of Procore and/or Build Cognition for quality documentation.
  • Implement methods for monitoring work activities, including three phases of control, daily progress reports, and non-conformance logs to accurately inform the project team of current status of work.
  • Oversee the building inspection process to ensure work is delivered in a safe and timely manner meeting all project requirements.
  • Coordinate and participate in pre-installation conferences with subcontractors and coordinate all follow-up and daily inspections.
  • Direct and manage the commissioning process on the project inclusive of the startup plan, commissioning schedule, and functional testing.
  • Ensure third-party and other required testing and inspection activities are performed and documented as required.
  • Participate in factory witness testing as applicable.
  • Conduct weekly QC meetings with owner, architect, and project team as required. Participate in weekly subcontractor meetings with the project team.
  • Document all quality inspections and pre-installation meetings.
  • Manage and coordinate QC specialists, testing laboratory personnel, and any other inspection and testing personnel.
  • Review submittals for accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Ensure that shop drawing and submittal review and approval process is effective and efficient.
  • Communicate with Owner, Project Manager, Superintendent, and subcontractors to collect information for process improvement and/or to resolve quality concerns.
What We're Looking For:
  • Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of construction experience (Project Superintendent, QC Manager, Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar).
    • A minimum of four (4) years as a QC Manager.
    • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proven history of leading others successfully and to teach, develop and mentor others.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, knowledge of construction methods and materials.
    • Excellent leadership skills with a desire to mentor, coach, and develop a team.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to balance and prioritize tasks in support of the project schedule.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Business acumen and relationship building skills.
  • Technology:
    • Candidate should have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Apple products (iPhone & iPad) and have the ability to learn specific software.
    • Solid systems experience with Procore and Bluebeam is preferred.
    • Training will be provided on company standards.
