The Retail Associate at RWB Thrift performs multiple tasks and processes associated with thrift operations, demanding attention to detail, physical endurance, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Retail Associates may be assigned to different areas within the sales floor and take pride in maintaining an orderly and clean store amid the ever‑changing inventory. Key duties include organizing clothing racks, promptly picking up items from the floor, returning products to designated locations, addressing spills, removing potential safety hazards, and occasionally assisting customers with items behind the register area to enhance the shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities- Greeting and assisting customers.
- Maintaining organization and color order on the sales floor.
- Ensuring the return of products to their designated locations.
- Removing potential safety hazards by promptly picking up fallen items, addressing spills, and cleaning up breakage.
- Organizing and upholding assigned departments to organizational standards.
- Prioritizing attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness in tasks.
- Adhering to safety procedures and guidelines.
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the leadership team.
- Ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous thrift, retail, warehouse, or customer‑facing experience is preferred, but not required.
- Capable of safely performing essential job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting both qualitative and quantitative productivity requirements.
- Physical strength: occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs; frequently exert up to 25 lbs of force; generally handle lighter loads.
- Endurance: able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity: proficient in repetitive motions such as extending hands and arms in any direction and primarily working with fingers.
- Fine motor skills: skilled in tasks involving seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
- Balance and agility: able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces and when performing agile tasks.
- Visual acuity: requires clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
- Footwear: must wear closed‑toe shoes for safety purposes.
- Repetitive tasks: the job involves regular repetitive motions.
- Atmosphere: dynamic, consistently busy; thriving in a fast‑paced environment is essential.
- Noise level: noisy due to bustling activity on the sales floor and production area; ability to work effectively in noise is required.
- Lighting: bright lighting throughout the front and back of the store; ability to work effectively in bright conditions is required.
- Interactions with others: regular interactions with customers, donors, and coworkers; effective communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Flexibility: high degree of flexibility; employees may switch tasks or departments based on operational needs and are expected to work in all assigned areas.
- Employees are not required to communicate exclusively in English; however, the role may involve interactions with individuals who primarily use English. A fundamental understanding of written and spoken English may be necessary to understand instructions and to communicate verbally and in writing.
