Dealer Account Representative‑Underwriter I
The Dealer Account Representative‑Underwriter I is responsible for developing and maintaining dealer relationships and sales activities with the dealerships who partner with Canvas Credit Union through Origence within an assigned geographic area. The role focuses on building and maintaining relationships, increasing loan penetration, controlling credit risk, and driving revenue while ensuring compliance with Canvas requirements and applicable regulations.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain strong business relationships at assigned dealerships, including owners, GMs, sales managers, F&I directors, managers, and the business office.
- Identify specific sales and account management strategies for each account and document and manage them.
- Serve strategic initiatives set by senior leadership and the executive team.
- Exercise independent judgment on matters of significance related to dealer relationships and sales.
- Communicate dealership needs, increase satisfaction, grow product penetration, and improve yield; resolve dealer questions or issues in a timely manner.
- Understand Origence systems and help train dealership personnel on Origence processes, software, rate sheets, and lending guidelines.
- Work with dealerships to increase Canvas loan penetration and indirect lending opportunities.
- Present reports and trend data to dealerships to help them understand the portfolio’s volume and profitability.
- Help resolve issues when a dealership acts outside established guidelines or fails to meet dealer agreement responsibilities.
- Underwrite indirect automobile loans within defined limits to manage overall and individual dealership portfolios to meet volume, loss tolerance, and yield goals.
- Promote and contribute to organizational goals.
- Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, industry trends, competitor rates, and terms that may affect the credit union’s indirect lending program.
- Act as first point of contact for dealerships on rehashes and escalations.
- Attend and host dealer dinners, events, concerts, and sporting events during and after regular working hours, including weekends.
- Ensure all contracts and relationships comply with Canvas requirements and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests.
- Follow safety and security guidelines to safeguard member and organizational assets.
- Recommend and help develop and implement indirect lending policies and procedures.
- Engage in ongoing education and learn new skills and software applications.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Undergo pre‑employment background review.
- Demonstrated success in sales and customer service, with a track record of building strong customer relationships and new business development.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to explain indirect and direct lending, underwriting, and title work features, policies, and benefits.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Canvas financial products and services.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to maintain confidences.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Two‑year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school, or three years of equivalent work experience.
- One to three years of indirect lending sales and underwriting experience.
High‑volume, fast‑paced office environment with occasional travel. Requires attendance at meetings and events outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. Routine use of standard office equipment and manual dexterity, including lifting files and standing as needed.
