The Commercial Fuel Sales Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth by developing new commercial fuel business and expanding existing customer relationships within an assigned territory. This role executes strategic business development initiatives, identifies and secures new fleet and commercial fueling customers, and delivers customized fuel cards and fueling solutions that address customer operational needs. Serving as a trusted advisor, the Commercial Fuel Sales Manager negotiates contracts, manages account profitability, and works collaboratively with internal operations, pricing, billing, and customer service teams to ensure a seamless customer experience from prospecting through implementation and ongoing account management.
Success in this role requires a sales hunter approach, strong relationship‑building and negotiation skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to operate independently while managing a large geographic territory with extensive travel.
- Develop and execute strategic commercial fuel sales and marketing plans to drive new business growth and increase customer retention.
- Identify, prospect, and engage targeted commercial and fleet accounts to generate new business opportunities.
- Conduct consultative sales presentations to understand customer needs, identify pain points, and recommend customized fueling and fuel card solutions.
- Build and maintain long‑term customer relationships through exceptional service and ongoing account management.
- Negotiate customer contracts, pricing agreements, and service terms to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Collaborate with operations, customer service, pricing, and billing teams to ensure seamless customer onboarding and service experience.
- Leverage industry knowledge to support pricing strategies, billing processes, and customer service initiatives.
- Monitor account performance, sales activity, profitability, and customer satisfaction to identify opportunities for growth.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and consistently achieve territory sales and revenue objectives.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer feedback to identify new business opportunities and improve sales strategies.
- Travel extensively throughout the assigned territory to conduct customer meetings, prospect new business, and strengthen client relationships.
- Maintain accurate customer records, sales forecasts, and activity reports utilizing CRM (Sales Force Preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Five or more years of experience in direct sales, business development, account management, or commercial fuel sales.
- Demonstrated success in contract negotiation and consultative sales.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound business decisions.
- Proven problem‑solving skills with a customer‑focused approach.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, result‑driven environment.
