Job Summary
This position carries out and achieves a sales plan assigned by the Sysco Specialty Meat Group (SSMG). The individual is responsible for maximizing sales profitability, driving growth, and expanding account penetration within a designated territory through effective sales of the company’s products. They promote, sell, and secure orders from existing and prospective customers using a relationship‑based approach, demonstrating products and services and guiding customers to the best solutions for their needs.

Responsibilities- Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers in the assigned territory to generate new business for SSMG products and services.
- Make in‑person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers.
- Take customer orders with SSMG goals in mind: sales and GP/Stop maximization.
- Participate, review, and oversee customer order input through communication with inside sales partners.
- React promptly to customer problems and needs.
- Review daily out‑of‑stocks, shortages, transportation issues, and implement solutions quickly.
- Analyze daily/weekly sales and margin reports to identify improvement opportunities.
- Stay informed about product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, trends, and other distributors/sales organizations in the market.
- Participate in SSMG training and customer events; attend sales meetings led by Sysco Sales leaders.
- Build relationships with accounts payable contacts at all accounts.
- Coordinate communication between accounts payable and the SSMG account receivable manager/representative.
- Implement "Ask Early and Often" to control days sales outstanding (DSOs) and know when to say "No Ship" or "Cash on Delivery (COD)".
- Update bid files, customer profiles, and customer call sheets to ensure accurate pricing and reduce costly credits and returns.
- High School diploma.
- Preferred: 4‑year degree in culinary arts, business, marketing, agriculture/animal science, or related studies.
- 2‑year prior food service and/or sales background strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise of meat and seafood categories or a restaurant/culinary background with the capacity to quickly learn and apply new knowledge.
- Consultative sales ability.
- Self‑motivated with accountability for time management without constant supervisor direction.
- Strong customer‑relations skills and a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook.
