Job Overview
Clean Harbors in Denver, CO is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (Clean Pack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. This customer‑facing role involves working indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer sites.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure health and safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
- Prepare computer‑generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications.
- Inspect staging, accumulation, and storage areas, including drums, for leaks, spills, and compliance with labeling regulations.
- Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.
- Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
- Prepare and approve all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
- Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
- Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements.
- Sample and profile new waste streams or waste requiring analytical testing.
- Maintain correct drum counts and ensure drums are shippable according to company policy.
- Safely operate vehicles and observe all corporate operating guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Class B CDL.
- Strong customer service skills.
- By position, obtain a hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment.
- Perform physical functions required by the job.
- Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position.
- Meet facial hair standards for respirator use per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.34.
- College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science.
- Previous experience in Environmental Services (e.g., remediation, abatement, emergency spill response).
