Staff Geologist / Hydrogeologist - Solid Waste & Remediation

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for a mid to senior level geologist or hydrogeologist to support a growing solid waste and remediation team in Denver. You will focus on data analysis, interpretation of field samples, and preparation of clear, client-ready reports for contaminated site investigations, including coal ash remediation at coal-fired power plants. The position is ideal for professionals who want to transition from primarily field-based work into a more office-focused role while still maintaining meaningful involvement in site investigations and remediation projects.

Responsibilities

* Conduct contaminated site investigations involving the collection and analysis of soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples.

* Plan and perform soil sampling and groundwater sampling programs in accordance with project scopes, regulatory requirements, and standard operating procedures.

* Analyze field and laboratory data to evaluate site conditions, contaminant distribution, and trends in environmental media.

* Develop and refine conceptual site models, critically evaluating existing data to identify gaps and inform field investigation scopes.

* Prepare high-quality technical reports, including data summaries, interpretations, figures, and recommendations for clients and regulators.

* Support solid waste and remediation projects, including work at solid waste sites and coal combustion residual (CCR) sites associated with coal-fired power plants.

* Assist with groundwater monitoring programs, including data management, statistical evaluations, and reporting.

* Contribute to the development and evaluation of corrective measures and remediation strategies based on site characterization results.

* Apply knowledge of federal and Colorado environmental regulations (including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, and CAA) to ensure project compliance.

* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of geologists, hydro geologists, engineers, and environmental scientists to deliver integrated project solutions.

* Use groundwater modeling and contouring tools, where applicable, to support interpretation of subsurface conditions and contaminant migration.

* Participate in Phase I environmental site assessments and related site assessment activities as needed.

* Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.

* Support project management activities over time, with the opportunity to progress into a project manager role as experience grows.

Essential Skills

* Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in geology, hydrogeology, or a closely related field.

* Demonstrated experience conducting contaminated site investigations, including collection and analysis of soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples.

* Hands-on experience with soil sampling and groundwater sampling in environmental or remediation projects.

* Proficiency in analyzing environmental data and drawing sound technical conclusions from field and laboratory results.

* Strong report writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate client reports.

* Experience working on solid waste or remediation projects, particularly those involving coal combustion residual (CCR) sites and coal ash remediation.

* Familiarity with groundwater monitoring programs and related data evaluation, including statistical analysis.

* Working knowledge of conceptual site models and the ability to critically analyze and refine them to guide field investigations.

* Prior experience with Colorado and federal environmental regulations, including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, and CAA.

* Background in hydrogeology, environmental science, hydrology, geology, or a related discipline.

* Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

* Geochemical Background or experience interpreting geochemical data for environmental and remediation projects.

* Experience performing Phase I environmental site assessments and related site assessment activities.

* Interest in transitioning from primarily field-based roles into more office-focused responsibilities, including data analysis and reporting.

* Motivation to grow into a project management role, supported by a strong backlog of work and clear advancement opportunities.

Work Environment
