Job Overview
Clean Harbors in Denver, CO is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (Clean Pack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. This role works both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer sites, assisting with lab packs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections and lab moves. The position is customer‑facing with daily field visits.
KeyRequirements
- Valid Class B CDL with hazmat endorsement
- Typical schedule:
10‑14 hour days, overtime after 40 hours; 10‑30 % overnight travel - Clean shaven and able to wear a full‑face respirator as required
- Comfortable with general labor and building relationships with customer personnel
- Prioritize health and safety by following all safe work practices, policies, and processes
- Generate packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
- Inspect staging, accumulation, and storage areas for proper housekeeping and compliance
- Inspect drums for leaks, spills, and labeling compliance
- Collect, segregate, and package waste chemicals to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
- Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
- Prepare and approve all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies
- Conduct projects/jobs per site‑specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans
- Understand and apply customer‑specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements
- Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing
- Ensure accurate drum counts and verify drum conditions are shippable per company procedures
- Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, state, and federal requirements
- Observe all corporate operating guidelines and environmental health and safety guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Valid Class B CDL
- Strong customer service skills
- Obtain hazmat and tanker endorsement within six months of employment
- Perform physical functions required by the job
- Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical exam
- Meet facial hair standards per OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.34) when respirators are required
- College degree in Chemistry or a related natural science field
- Previous experience in environmental services such as remediation, abatement, or emergency spill response
- Competitive pay range: $26.75 per hour plus a $5,000 sign‑on bonus
