The EURēCA! Student Assistants Program provides introductory opportunities for CU Denver undergraduates to engage in research and creative activities.

CU Denver College of Arts & Media/ This position is on campus, remote, and in the artist's studio

Purpose:

This Artist Assistant position is designed to support Professor Lucinda Bliss with preparation for a January 2027 exhibit at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University in Logan, UT. The assistant will work directly with the artist to prepare for the exhibition, providing support with research, fabrication, and documentation of the creative work. There will be abundant guidance and collaboration throughout all aspects of the project.

Position

Description:

The work for the show, which explores the theme of water, will take the form of installation and drawing. The Studio Assistant will work directly with the artist, helping with the preparation of creative work for the show (sewing, beading, and organizing materials). They will also assist with some basic research, gathering written materials that inform the theme of the exhibit.

Later in the fall, the position will shift to organizing digital image files for the exhibition’s supporting materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Artist Assistant will help with fabrication: cutting and sewing fabric, beading, and working with the artist to construct the work. They will work with the library and other resources to gather research on the history, current state, and narratives of water in the American West. Finally, the position will assist with organizing digital materials.
Skills and Knowledge Gained:
  • Experience with the many aspects of preparation for an artist’s exhibition, including:
  • A range of technical skills applied in studio work
  • Hand-eye coordination and aesthetic awareness/judgment
  • Introduction to the formal and conceptual work of exhibition preparation
  • Awareness regarding the development of supporting materials for an exhibition
  • Organization of materials documenting a creative body of work
  • Soft skills including communication, collaboration, and attention to detail
  • Digital skills required for working with an image database (may learn basic Lightroom skills)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Basic computer and filing skills
  • Basic sewing and beading abilities (and/or good hand/eye coordination)
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
  • Strong work ethic
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with creative practice / fine arts
  • Ability to drive to artist's studio for an introduction to the project and to pick up materials (helpful but not required)
Position Commitment:

5-10 hours/week, with the greatest commitment through mid-November (dependent on work-study award amount)

Preferred Work Times:

Flexible, but Friday afternoons are ideal

Length of Employment:

This position is available for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, employment may continue at Professor Bliss’s discretion. Please reach out to lucinda.bliss with any questions about the position. If both mentor and mentee agree, students can apply to continue with EURēCA! for a second year.

Work-study is optional for this position, but preferred.
  • First complete  FAFSA or CASFA and confirm work-study eligibility with the CU Denver Financial Aid office.
  • Once confirmed, attach email from Financial Aid stating potential work-study eligibility.
  • Following interview and position offers, the EURēCA! Office will provide Work-study Authorization forms to confirm final work-study award amounts before formal offer letters.
