Bayaud Works provides critical services and expertise in short- and long-term homeless sheltering, cold weather sheltering, and janitorial and workforce support services. General Tasks, Duties, and ResponsibilitiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Patrol and monitor assigned shelter property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion or unsafe behavior.
- Maintain clear communication with Shelter Leads, Project Managers, and other site staff.
- Monitor and authorize entry and exit of residents, employees, and visitors per Bayaud Works entry/exit procedures.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, or unsafe situations and document via incident reports.
- Lock doors, gates, and access points to secure buildings when required.
- Perform perimeter checks and ensure all safety and security measures are followed.
- Assist in de-escalation and conflict resolution; utilize trauma-informed and person-centered approaches.
- Respond to medical emergencies by providing basic first aid or requesting paramedic assistance.
- Document all incidents, safety issues, and unusual occurrences in daily shift logs and incident reports.
- Communicate significant events to Shelter Leads and Project Managers and escalate as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Denver Police Department, Fire Department, or emergency personnel as needed.
- Support Denver HOST inspections and safety reviews by maintaining compliance with site standards.
- Engage respectfully with shelter guests, maintaining professionalism and compassion at all times.
- Operate detecting or screening devices when necessary to ensure a safe shelter environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain the safety and integrity of the shelter operation.
- Experience working with homeless, at-risk, or vulnerable populations preferred.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
- Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations.
- Comfortable working in diverse environments with individuals of all backgrounds.
- Must be able to exercise sound judgment and patience when handling sensitive situations.
Hours:
Ability to work within the schedule - Sunday to Saturday, 24 hours/day, various shifts. Work is performed on-site at assigned shelter locations.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Colorado State Guard License
- At least 1 year experience as a Security Guard
- CPR, NARCAN, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), and De-Escalation Training.
- Must successfully pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check
- Must pass a physical examination
