Location: Winnetka Campus (Frequent travel to Northfield Campus and other locations, day and evening supervision)
Reports to: Winnetka Campus Principal /Assistant Superintendent
Supervises: Campus Safety Staff

No later than July 1, 2026
Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000
Position OverviewThe Director of Campus Safety is a strategic and operational leader responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing programs that protect the safety and security of students, staff, and district property. This role collaborates with district and building administration to ensure a safe learning environment; develops a comprehensive professional development plan for safety and support personnel; and co‑leads with Winnetka Campus Principal /Assistant Superintendent in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of a district‑wide Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for all school sites.
The Director works closely with Physical Plant Services and Technology to select, administer, and maintain security‑related hardware and systems, and serves as the primary liaison between the district and external public safety agencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field preferred
- Emergency management experience
- Minimum of five years of experience as a police officer, facility security officer, or in a comparable security role
- Experience in school security and safety training preferred
- Experience in crisis management; investigation of individuals and/or incidents; and facility, personnel protection, and training
- Experience with security technology systems (e.g., Raptor, access control, & video surveillance systems)
- Able to author policies and standard operating procedures in alignment with Emergency Operation Plans
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community members
- Executive presence with includes excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking, and budget experience.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to school safety and security
- Knowledge of de‑escalation strategies and the ability to lead and model de‑escalation efforts
- Proficiency with technical communication systems, programs, and equipment in both daily operations and emergencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to address concerns, de‑escalate situations, and carry out decisions professionally
- Skill in working with students and collaborating with parents and staff on disciplinary issues and situations affecting student safety
- Ability to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students and staff to support safe, productive learning environments and common areas
- Ability to consistently demonstrate dignity and respect when interacting with students, staff, and community members
- Commitment to staying current on best practices and procedures in school safety and security
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records related to investigations, sensitive information, and security matters
- Proficiency with electronic devices and commonly used software, including security camera and access control systems, emergency/disaster planning and communication tools, student information systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace for Education, and other cloud‑based applications; ability to learn new software with minimal guidance
- Ability to prepare required safety and evacuation reports, including those required by the Illinois State Board of Education
Campus Security Department Management
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all Campus Security staff.
- Plan and implement ongoing in‑service training for security staff (e.g., non‑violent conflict resolution, customer service).
- Hold weekly meetings with campus security leads and regular department meetings.
