Job Description Summary

The Overnight Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all guests, employees, and visitors at the hotel. The officer protects hotel assets, enforces Sonesta Hotels International corporate security policies, and ensures full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Duties also include fire prevention, safety checks, investigation of incidents, and resolution of safety and security complaints.

Shift: Overnight, Weekends Required

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests, managing according to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instilling a passion for customer service in all associates.
  • Perform normal hotel security functions, including fire prevention and safety checks.
  • Investigate thefts, accidents, and other incidents on the property.
  • Prevent losses of company and guest property caused by theft, burglary, pilferage, and other criminal activity.
  • Ensure a safe and tranquil environment for guests and employees.
  • Assist guests and colleagues with all security and safety related enquiries.
  • Resolve guest and employee complaints regarding safety and security matters.
  • Conduct floor patrols during tour of duty, including checking doors, windows, and securing facilities during non‑operating hours.
  • Monitor the activities of personnel on the premises to detect and counter thefts and other criminal activities.
  • Complete associate forms and reports related to any accidents or issues within the hotel premises.
  • Immediately report hotel deficiencies to appropriate departments for repair.
  • Perform other work‑related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Adherence to the property’s grooming standards.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and run continuously as required.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle during all hours and in all weather conditions.
  • Understanding and execution of all safety and emergency procedures (e.g., fire, crowd control, inclement weather, bomb threats).
  • Understanding and operation of emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, wheelchairs, respirators).
  • Ability to lift and carry overhead items up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Ability to lift and move, in an emergency, an immobilized adult.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and reach.
  • Ability to push or pull approximately 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to utilize communication equipment (e.g., telephones, radios, beepers).
  • Clear and effective communication with guests and employees.
  • Courteous, empathetic, and discreet interaction with guests and staff.
  • Reading and writing proficiency.
  • Direct public contact with high‑volume guest interaction, requiring strong customer service skills.
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
