Job Description Summary

The Overnight Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all guests, employees, and visitors of the hotel. They protect all hotel assets, enforce security policies in accordance with Sonesta International corporate guidelines, and maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. They also perform fire prevention, safety checks, investigations, and resolve complaints regarding safety and security matters.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients. Manage according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all associates of the hotel.
  • Perform normal hotel security functions, including fire prevention and safety checks.
  • Investigate thefts, accidents, and other incidents which occur on the property.
  • Prevent losses of company and guest property due to theft, burglary, pilferage, and other criminal activity.
  • Ensure a safe and tranquil environment for guests and employees.
  • Assist guests and colleagues on all security and safety related enquiries.
  • Resolve guest and employee complaints regarding safety and security matters.
  • Conduct floor patrols during the tour of duty, including checking of doors, windows, and securing facilities during non‑operating hours.
  • Monitor the activities of personnel on the premises to detect and counter thefts and other criminal activities.
  • Complete associates’ forms and reports related to any accidents or issues within the premises of the hotel.
  • Immediately report hotel deficiencies to appropriate departments for immediate repair.
  • Perform other work‑related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Adhere to the property's grooming standards.
  • Stand and walk on a continuous basis, and run as warranted.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle at all hours and in all weather conditions.
  • Understand and execute all safety and emergency procedures (e.g., fire, crowd control, inclement weather, bomb threats).
  • Operate emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, wheelchairs, respirators).
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. in overhead areas.
  • Lift and move an immobilized adult in emergencies.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, climb (including stairs and ladder), and reach comfortably.
  • Push or pull approximately 75 lbs.
  • Work in extreme temperatures.
  • Utilize communication equipment (e.g., telephones, radios, beepers).
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with guests and other employees.
  • Interact with guests and other employees in a courteous, empathetic, and discreet manner.
  • Read and write effectively.
  • Maintain high customer service during direct contact with the public (smile, eye contact, positive personal presentation).
  • Work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Pay

$21.00 to $22.00 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
