Salary: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour dependent on contract and position.

SummaryThe PRN Shelter Operations Floater is a flexible, as-needed position that supports 24/7 shelter operations across multiple functional areas, including direct guest support, safety and security monitoring, fire watch, janitorial and facility support, documentation, and basic case management support. The role helps maintain safety, sanitation, guest wellbeing, and operational continuity during emergency shelter operations, cold-weather activations, and other temporary or high-need staffing periods.
PRN staff may be assigned to one or more functional areas based on site needs, training, experience, and operational coverage requirements while upholding Bayaud Works standards for trauma-informed care, public safety, confidentiality, and dignified service delivery.
General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities- Provide flexible operational coverage across shelter programs, including shelter attendant duties, janitorial support, safety and security functions, fire watch, administrative documentation, and basic case management support.
- Complete assigned shift documentation, logs, reports, and required compliance records accurately and on time.
- Follow Bayaud Works, site-specific, contract, City, HOST, safety, privacy, and emergency operating procedures.
- Complete required onboarding, training, certifications, and compliance requirements within 90 days of assignment or within the timeframe required by the site, contract, or supervising agency.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, effective, and compliant shelter operations.
- Provide welcoming, respectful, and trauma-informed assistance to shelter guests.
- Conduct guest check-in and check-out, bed assignments and checks, and bag-and-tag of belongings.
- Distribute meals, linens, hygiene supplies, and other necessities.
- Monitor guest wellbeing and elevate medical, behavioral health, or safety concerns.
- De-escalate conflicts and behavioral disruptions using trauma-informed methods.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, guest counts, and incident documentation.
- Collaborate with shelter leadership, City staff, HOST partners, and outreach teams.
- Perform regular interior and exterior safety patrols of the shelter site.
- Monitor entrances and exits and control access points.
- Observe guest movement and facility conditions to support a secure environment.
- Respond to disturbances and elevate to emergency services when required.
- Enforce shelter safety rules and community standards in a trauma-informed manner.
- Complete security-related documentation and incident reporting.
- Conduct assigned fire watch duties when fire protection systems are impaired or when required by the City or Fire Department.
- Perform scheduled patrols for fire hazards, obstructions, and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure emergency exits, pathways, and fire suppression equipment remain clear.
- Maintain accurate fire watch logs in accordance with Fire Department requirements.
- Immediately report fire hazards or emergencies according to emergency response protocols.
- Perform routine and emergency cleaning of sleeping areas, bathrooms, common spaces, and exterior areas.
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces according to public health and HOST sanitation standards.
- Remove trash, restock supplies, and monitor cleanliness throughout shifts.
- Assist with shelter setup, takedown, and reconfiguration during activations.
- Report facility maintenance issues, hazards, or sanitation concerns.
- Provide basic guest intake, program enrollments, resource connection, and service referral support under the direction of case management leadership.
