The Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic is a highly skilled and valued individual who diagnoses, repairs, adjusts, overhauls, installs, services, and maintains heavy mechanical equipment (Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Kenworth) designed for construction activities such as heavy lifting, earth moving and material transportation. This individual works in the maintenance shop to gauge and fix problems effectively and in a timely fashion, enabling sizable crews to resume work on major projects throughout Colorado.
TOTAL COMPENSATION
$26.01 to $47.21 per hour, significant overtime potential, plus $2,000 signing bonus staggered over first year of continuous employment and up to $2,000 in annual tool reimbursement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and identify malfunctions using computerized tools and equipment.
- Accurately troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Read, understand and apply mechanical, electrical, fuel and hydraulic schematics to repair work.
- Diagnose Tier 3 and Tier 4 interim and Tier 4 final emissions systems.
- Perform scheduled maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating parts.
- Inspect, repair, and replace defective or worn parts.
- Remove, repair, and install major heavy equipment components in varying configurations.
- Overhaul and test major components, such as engines, fuel elements, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Service truck trailers and maintain equipment inspection and service logs on a daily basis.
- Maintain tooling in good working order as per OSHA regulations.
- Participate in ongoing safety trainings and initiatives and maintain commitment to the highest safety standards.
- Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
:
- Minimum of one year maintenance experience servicing and repairing trucks and tractor trailers, including Cummins, CAT, and Paccar engines.
- Exceedingly skilled in preventative maintenance, trouble-shooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems, and hydraulic and pneumatic components.
- Self-motivated with a strong ability to prioritize effectively, work independently, manage time, multitask, and handle stress.
- Highly effective communicator with the ability to interact positively and professionally with vendors, customers, coworkers, and leaders.
- Good driving record to be able to drive Company vehicles.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs, including primarily day shift hours (usually between 6 AM and 4 PM), overtime, weekends, and/or holidays as required to accommodate company and project needs.
- Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug screening and work history verification.
- Must possess own basic hand tools.
- Consistent access to a reliable personal email account.
Preferred
:
- Welding knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
This job requires the ability to do and understand basic math equations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary functions require the physical ability and mobility to stand, sit, or lie down for extended periods of time and repeatedly work overhead, kneel, crawl, push, pull, bend, twist, and climb equipment as required by task. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify and manipulate small components. Keen sense of smell and hearing to identify unseen problems with equipment or fluids.
Ability to frequently lift 25 to 50 pounds.
