Position

General Maintenance Worker - GSA Facilities - Lakewood, Colorado

Summary

This position performs general maintenance of buildings and equipment requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, and key card locks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Replaces electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
  • Replaces filters, belts, etc.
  • Uses plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
  • Repairs or replaces sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  • Paints structures and equipment.
  • Repairs or replaces concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles.
  • Hangs doors and installs door locks; assists with lockouts, battery changes, and rekeying cards.
  • Replaces broken windowpanes.
  • Performs general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Flexible scheduling to include on-call rotations, occasional overtime, and some weekend work.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED plus at least three (3) years of general mechanical, electrical, carpentry, or maintenance experience within the past 4 years.
  • Completion of a technical/vocational school in general maintenance skills or comparable training is preferred; military/industry experience may substitute.
  • A valid Georgia Driver's License and the ability to maintain military gate pass access are required.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery; experience responding to and completing repairs on Demand Maintenance Orders (DMOs).
Critical Factors for Success
  • Knowledge of building repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of general mechanical, electrical and/or carpentry.
  • Knowledge of drywall, wood framing, concrete, and other building materials.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Skill in operation of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
  • Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
Communication Skills

Must be able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff. Ability to write reports and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees, and customers.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work

Environment

On-call rotation; may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather. Protective devices (e.g., respirators, masks, goggles, gloves) may be required.

$39.19
