We anticipate the need for one or more Lineman Cableman in Training to be located in Denver, CO. The starting rate of pay for this position is $63.95 hourly.
SummaryThis position will be responsible for construction, maintenance, and emergency repairs of underground network systems and will perform underground construction and maintenance work on company assets, maintain vaults, pull cable and splice conductors as needed. Candidate must be self‑motivated, work well with others, possess a positive attitude, and have a commitment to work safely, provide consistent quality customer service, create customer satisfaction and work productively.
ResponsibilitiesAdditional duties of the Lineman Cableman in Training include but are not limited to (duties and responsibilities will be commensurate with level hired into):
- Perform all associated tasks with the construction and maintenance of all underground facilities.
- Troubleshoot and repair all underground network circuits and equipment. May be assigned to work with other Journeymen or lower classifications without the direct supervision of a higher‑level classification.
- Safely perform all network underground switching.
- May be required to work in inclement weather for extended hours and may be required to travel throughout the system in cases of emergencies and storms to restore the system.
- Will be responsible for all assigned work being done in accordance with all company design standards and work methods.
- Will be required to prepare all job associated paperwork.
- Must be comfortable working in confined spaces (i.e. manholes & vault rooms).
- The successful candidate must have the physical ability, endurance, and desire to perform potentially strenuous outdoor work, at all times of the day and night, and under various weather conditions.
- The successful applicant will be expected to respond to emergency callouts after normal work hours and on weekends.
- The successful candidate must be able to perform safe, proficient, and effective pole‑climbing.
- Applicants must be self‑motivated, work well with others, have a positive attitude, and be committed to working safely and productively.
- The successful candidate must complete an 18‑month training, completion of associated training guides, and test out of training program.
For External and Non‑Xcel Energy Journeyman candidates, verification of Journeyman Lineman qualifications and knowledge will include written testing and/or practical skills evaluation during the application process.
Minimum Requirements- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A CDL driver’s license including a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- All applicants must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program, and possess a Journeyman Lineman certification.
- Must have a well‑rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeder circuits, transformer loading and connections, and fusing practices.
- Should have experience with electric meter sets and their connections.
- Must have knowledge and experience in the use of hot line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers and their connections.
- Must be experienced in the operation of Line Construction and Maintenance vehicles including, but not limited to, forklifts, digger‑derricks, platform digger units, wire and rope tensioning units, and other similar equipment.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and experience in electric Distribution system trouble‑shooting.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the Safety Rules and regulations of the Company and must be well acquainted with the hazards involved in electric Distribution field service work.
- Must be familiar with the use of rubber gloves, sleeves, line hose, and switching procedures, as well as in the use of PPE in accordance with Company and OSHA requirements.
