Position

Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the repair of all fleet vehicles, machinery, motors, tools, and equipment used by the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront and advocate safety by following safety policies and procedures.
  • Repair and maintain heavy equipment and trucks (e.g., pavers, rollers, milling machines, dump trucks, water trucks, boot trucks, front-end loaders, scrapers, skid steers, skip loaders, motor graders).
  • Inspect and service fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches; change filters and oil; lubricate vehicles and equipment; maintain other fleet vehicles as needed.
  • Respond to supervisor requests to complete repairs and maintenance; prepare and close out work orders; relay work orders to fleet admin or supervisor.
  • Diagnose, service, and repair trucks/equipment using electronic scan tools.
  • Conduct safety meetings (daily PTP & weekly Tailgate Topics) and participate in jobsite and company training.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; secure and organize tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • May order fuel, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned. Duties may change with or without notice.

Safety
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to the company s drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OSHA regulations.
  • All employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Acts as a safety ambassador by complying with laws and Company safety policy, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and remedying hazards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work at professional construction sites or shop environments; ability to communicate verbally, read materials, and navigate signs and computer screens; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; climb stairs or ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and operate around construction sites safely.
  • Work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, equipment, and tools within safety guidelines.
  • Work outside, often for long periods in all weather conditions; exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, pathogens, gases, dust, and loud noises.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
  • Full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
  • Must be willing to travel to all job sites (including staying away from home if necessary).
Minimum Qualifications Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2–3 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Scan tool experience is a plus.
  • Fluent in English (read, write, and speak).
  • Must meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2); all 10K-CMV and CDL drivers must complete and pass an English proficiency assessment.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Must have a valid driver s license.
  • Must have a basic tool set to perform preventative maintenance.
