Utility Technician – Aqua
The Utility Technician performs a variety of day‑to‑day duties associated with the repair and upgrade of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, customer service issues, and housekeeping at water and wastewater facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES- Perform semi‑skilled installation, maintenance and repair of valves, meters, gauges, pumps, and associated equipment used in water distribution or wastewater collection systems using hand and power tools.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, digging, trenching equipment, and other equipment in accordance with company procedures and operating standards.
- Load and unload various equipment, chemicals and supplies at worksites and storage areas.
- Operate medium construction equipment under the supervision of a qualified operator.
- Adhere to all safety and security operating policies, procedures, practices and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform ground keeping and custodial work as assigned.
- Resolve routine problems and notify management of issues outside scope of responsibility.
- Read meters as needed.
- Update and maintain documentation of work activities, including closing work orders as needed in the system.
- Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- No previous experience required; mechanical or electrical experience preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) permit must be attained within 90 days of hire.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with computers and work systems such as Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effectively communicate clearly, concisely and professionally with customers and internal staff.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi‑tasking environment.
- May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
- May be required to be “on‑call” per the site schedule.
