HVAC Mechanical Service Technician – Junior (Un)
Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our North American HVAC business. Core responsibilities include performing maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems; partnering with Journeymen to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems; offering customers high‑level service to solve facility inefficiencies; providing recommendations, upselling opportunities, and quotes; and acting as a trusted advisor during commissioning and aftermarket service.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement on commercial HVACR equipment, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, boilers, chillers, and compressors.
- Collaborate with Journeymen to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/ hydrocarbon systems.
- Conduct troubleshooting using vibration equipment and mechanical shaft alignment tools such as dial indicators and laser alignment.
- Provide customers with solutions, outcomes, and quotes that ensure optimal facility performance.
- Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification and uphold rigorous safety practices.
- Travel up to 20% to support branch customer activities, installations, repairs, and training.
- Member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry (UAPPI), AFL‑CIO.
- At least 12 years of commercial/industrial mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience in HVAC, petro‑chemical, or data center environments, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, and compressors.
- Ability to lead large, complex repairs, jobs, or retrofits.
- Experience repairing centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Experience installing complete systems—chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical equipment.
- Proficiency with vibration analysis, drivetrain troubleshooting, and mechanical shaft alignment.
- Self‑starter with strong communication skills to create customer problem reports, root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, and quotes.
- Universal EPA refrigerant license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver’s license.
- Pass a knowledge examination assessing HVAC proficiencies.

Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role; exceptional candidates may qualify for compensation above the stated range.
