Position: Industrial Painter - Denver.

Department Information

The Division of Facilities Management (DFM) is a customer‑driven support organization responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses. The role is located in the Northern District and is open to current Colorado residents only.

Job Overview

This is a full‑time, in‑person, essential position. The successful candidate will work at the assigned work location during scheduled work times, travel between facilities in State vehicles, and respond to after‑hours calls as required.

Responsibilities
  • Paint walls, equipment, buildings, casework, and other structural surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Prepare surfaces by removing old paint, caulking, patching, and sanding as needed.
  • Mix paint colors, apply primers or sealers, and perform finish coats on wood, metal, or other substrates.
  • Calculate material amounts and estimate costs based on surface measurements.
  • Read work orders and receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements.
  • Perform general drywall duties: hang, tape, texture, and repair drywall and plaster.
  • Construct new walls and ceilings including framing.
  • Inspect facilities for necessary repairs such as burnt‑out exit lights, damaged flooring, and defective fixtures.
  • Repair minor damage to finishes and systems, including walls, ceilings, floors, and accent systems.
  • Replace flooring materials, wall base, accessories, cabinet, and counter top hardware.
  • Adjust door hinges and closures to ensure proper operation.
  • Replace burnt‑out light bulbs, ballast, light fixtures, and switches.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including greasing bearings, changing filters and belts, and servicing fans, pumps, and swamp coolers.
  • Conduct electrical repairs, replace switches, and ensure compliance with code and regulatory standards.
  • Solve plumbing issues by snaking sanitary lines and repairing fixtures such as faucets, toilets, and urinals.
  • Performs routine and scheduled snow removal and applies ice melt as needed.
  • Travel to multiple facilities and districts as required.
  • Respond to after‑hours calls and essential services as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of full‑time professional commercial and/or residential painting experience.
  • OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship, and/or commercial/residential painting experience equal to four years.
  • Must attach proof of related education and/or apprenticeship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industrial painting experience.
  • Five or more years of commercial painting experience.
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Experience with road markings and/or striping.
  • Experience with airless paint sprayers.
  • Relevant years of State service.

Conditions of Employment
  • Colorado residency required at application and throughout employment.
  • Full pre‑employment criminal background check required; felony convictions or related misdemeanors may disqualify.
  • Valid non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license required (out‑of‑state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days).
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Must be willing to receive annual influenza vaccination or provide a valid exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a tuberculosis test.
  • Must be available for after‑hours calls and essential/emergency services without delay.
  • Travel required for daily assignments and occasional training or district visits.
  • Must be prepared to handle hazardous materials and work in high‑exposed areas.
  • If previously terminated or resigned from State employment, must disclose information and explain why it should not disqualify the applicant.
