Description Of Job
The Facilities department provides a safe, clean, and functional facility to enable the faculty, staff, and students of FRCC to achieve their educational goals. Provides electrical service, installation and repair for all electrical equipment required for the proper operation of the college’s physical plants. Maintains HVAC equipment, motor control circuits, fire alarm systems, and computer automation systems. Plans requisitions for materials for remodeling and/or service repairs and conducts preventive maintenance on all electrical equipment.
Duties- Analyze electrical equipment and circuits, including motors, variable frequency drives, magnetic starters, lighting circuits, power distribution panels, fire alarm system, security system, door openers, and emergency lighting system. Perform annual preventative maintenance on electrical equipment, provide monthly meter readings, adjust lighting timers, and maintain current knowledge of electrical code updates. Follow PPE for Arc Flash protection.
- Troubleshoot and repair burned out or defective electrical equipment, fire alarm panels, HVAC equipment, VFDs, magnetic starters, switches, disconnects, sensors, fire alarm system components, relays, lighting contractors, and door openers. Adhere to NFPA and electrical codes.
- Replace burned out lamps (fluorescent, incandescent, high pressure sodium vapor, mercury vapor, metal halide) and light ballasts. Troubleshoot buried walkway and parking lot wiring and seek XCEL Energy rebate opportunities for energy‑efficient upgrades.
- Operate, program, troubleshoot, and install control equipment for computerized automation systems to monitor and operate all HVAC and fire alarm system equipment. Install low‑volume conduit and wiring for other computer equipment, pull wire, and install conduit for new circuits. Assist other departments with low‑volume wiring issues.
- Design, fabricate, and install electrical circuits, lighting fixtures, and electrical equipment for remodeling. Develop and work from blueprints, install computer line conditioners and isolation circuits where required, and review construction documents for remodel projects, offering recommendations and constructive feedback.
- Connect or disconnect power to electric machines, install power to additional machines, analyze and correct electrical problems on industrial shop equipment, and respond to after‑hours emergencies, assisting the fire department and emergency crews as needed.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting motor starters, VFDs, motor control circuits, lighting contractors, electric door openers, and computer automation systems.
- Must have a current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board. Clearly outline in your application how you meet the requirements.
- Must submit to and successfully complete a pre‑employment background check. Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or suitable misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you. You are responsible for providing official disposition of any charges or convictions.
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid Colorado driver’s license to operate company vehicles. Must also submit a motor vehicle record (MVR) as part of the background check.
- Essential function requires exertion of up to 100 lbs occasionally, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects, including lifting equipment, pushing grounds equipment, and removing snow. The role requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Must be able to follow verbal communications and read/write written directions on labels, machinery, and manuals. Must interpret written directives, policies, guidelines, and memos.
- Customer Service: Respond and interact with customers for complaints in person or via a work order system and analyze the cause of the problem and correct it.
