Job Summary
Join the Facilities Management Department on the University of Colorado Denver Campus as a PMT-II Facilities Maintenance HVAC Technician (Housing). This full‑time state classified position involves on‑call after‑hours work, including weekends and holidays, to support 24/7 operations. The technician operates, monitors, services, and repairs refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems, and related hardware across all CU Denver campus buildings. Responsibilities include responding to emergency calls, maintaining systems in safe and efficient order, managing work requests, logging work in CMMS, monitoring building systems in BAS, and performing other related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and contractors.
- Maintain reports and inventory via electronic records and databases.
- Operate university vehicles to transport necessary tools and equipment to work sites.
- Respond to alarms and emergencies, prioritize resolution based on urgency.
- Make changes in BAS to adjust building systems operating parameters.
- Collaborate with team members to improve performance.
- Work closely with the supervisor to implement leadership directives.
- Participate in after‑hours call‑back rotation.

- Four years of progressively responsible experience in the HVAC and refrigeration industry, including minimum two years with process chillers.
- Experience with VRF refrigeration systems.
- Experience entering, updating, and modifying database information.
- Experience inspecting, replacing, adjusting, and calibrating electronic and refrigeration controls.
- Experience accurately calculating refrigerant amounts using mathematical functions.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC/R systems and components.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse individuals.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent oral communication and ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
- Effective written communication and meticulous attention to grammar and spelling.
- Mechanical and physical capabilities required for HVAC/R work.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Salary and CompensationStarting salary estimated at $4,906–$5,690 per month. This position may be eligible for a one‑time building sign‑on bonus up to $2,000 and overtime compensation.
