Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Field/Service Technician
Penske Truck Leasing, the leader in the transportation industry, has an exciting and unique opportunity to leverage your passion for heavy‑duty shop equipment and tools. As an Equipment Repair Technician (SETS) you will be focused on performing inspections, preventative maintenance and light repair on shop equipment and tools within your assigned geographical area at Penske service facilities.
This entry‑level role works 10‑hour shifts, four days a week, Monday through Friday. Your success will positively impact our maintenance facility operations, technicians, supervisors and service managers, contributing to the overall success of the business.
A typical day involves driving a Shop Equipment & Tooling Support (SETS) truck, interacting with technicians, maintenance supervisors and service managers to complete the inspection process digitally. You will capture essential information, automate approval, summary reporting and inventory management. Depending on workload you may return home the same day or continue to the next location, returning home each weekend. You will also work with the Tooling & Service Bay Technology team to identify process and tooling improvements.
MajorResponsibilities
- Perform SETS inspection and light repair procedures.
- Collaborate with location staff and the SETS team to schedule visits.
- Communicate repair or replacement recommendations based on inspection results.
- Keep the SETS truck organized and clean.
- Communicate tool, replacement part and garage supplies inventory needs.
- Identify areas of SETS process improvement.
- Assist with training new associates on inspection and repair processes.
- Other duties and tasks as required by supervisor.
- 0‑3 years as an automotive or heavy‑duty technician; diagnostics and repair experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- ALI inspection certification preferred.
- CDI torque wrench certification training preferred.
- ASE certifications preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or technical school degree preferred.
- Excellent organization, customer service and communication skills.
- Experience using tools of the trade, including computers, tablets, cellular devices, hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web‑based applications (Outlook, Teams, Smartsheet, Salesforce).
- Regular, predictable, full‑time attendance is essential.
- Willingness to travel as necessary within the geographical area, work the required schedule, work on site, complete the Penske employment application, submit to background screening (criminal checks, past employment, education) and pass a drug screening.
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending and sitting for extended periods.
- Routine use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel and operate tools or controls.
- Safe work at heights using applicable ladders and elevated platforms.
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions.
- Capacity to see and hear to navigate the workplace safely.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
