The Road Closure Technician is a specialized role within road maintenance or traffic control, responsible for managing the safe closure of roads or sections of roads during construction, repair, or utility work. This position ensures that traffic is diverted, work zones are set up, and public safety is maintained during closures. This role will be responsible for going into residential and commercial areas working on underground utilities and working with their crew to complete tasks for the day.

Coordinates the closure of roads, set up temporary traffic control devices, and manage the flow of traffic around work areas. The goal is to minimize disruption while ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
- Plan and execute multiple road closures in coordination with engineers and contractors, following approved traffic control plans (TCPs) and MUTCD standards.

- Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as signs, cones, drums, delineators, and portable signals.
- Direct flagging operations and supervise flaggers to manage traffic flow in one-way pilot car setups.
- Inspect and adjust work zone layouts in response to changing construction activity or unexpected conditions.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth closure and reopening.
- Respond to public inquiries about road closures and provide updates on traffic conditions.
- Maintain accurate logs of closure activities, incidents, and traffic control setups.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and use of personal protective equipment.
- Assist crew leader in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work.
- Assist equipment operators, swamping, hand digging, locating underground obstructions.
- Work with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other necessary tools.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Work safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump truck.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Deliver, install, and remove road closure devices and traffic control setup in accordance with MUTCD standards and local guidelines.
- Set up and monitor traffic control zones, including signage, barriers, cones and various other traffic control equipment.
- Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites; ensure vehicles and loads are secured.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, field notes, and required paperwork related to site setup, inspections, and sign inventory.
- Communicate with site supervisors and law enforcement or public safety officials as needed to coordinate closures.
- Ensure all temporary traffic control devices are compliant and properly maintained.
- Assist with on-site setup as needed, including basic labor tasks and tool handling.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
