Fleet Mechanic I - HIRING RANGE: $25.22 - $29.00 / HOUR Position Highlights:
The Fleet Mechanic I performs skilled entry-level inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. This position requires basic mechanical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and basic skills using available materials and tools. Work is performed under general supervision with significant independent judgment, and results are reviewed through completed work performance.

FLEET MECHANIC I:
• Ability to diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment under supervision.
• Performs minor and major repair work on light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including automated refuse trucks, backhoes, wheel loaders, and other large and small equipment.
• Ability to repair and replacement of components such as brakes, steering parts, batteries, belts, hoses, and suspension components under supervision with training.
• Changes tires on small and large equipment with guidance as needed.
• Ability to reliably perform routine preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and lubrication with training.
• Learns and assists with vehicle emission testing and related documentation.
• Learns and assists with badging, outfitting, and setup of new vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to perform basic vehicle and equipment inspections to identify visible mechanical deficiencies and reports findings to lead mechanics or supervisors.
• Learns and assists with fabrication, modification, and repair of parts using shop tools and available materials.
• Works as part of a team and follows instructions while developing independent work skills.
• Maintains accurate records of maintenance and repair activities on work orders under supervision.
• Learns to read and interpret maintenance manuals, diagrams, and technical instructions.
• Follows all City safety rules, environmental regulations, and workplace policies at all times.
• Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress, equipment condition, and safety concerns.
• Performs additional entry-level mechanical and shop support duties as assigned.
Equipment Operation:
FLEET MECHANIC II:
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic problems on gasoline and diesel-powered engines, vehicles, and equipment.
• Performs minor and major repair work on light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including automated refuse trucks, backhoes, wheel loaders, and other large and small equipment.
• Repairs and rebuilds components such as transmissions, engines, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to independently change tires for small and large equipment.
