Position Overview

National Jewish Health is seeking a reliable and motivated HVAC Technician to join the Facilities team. This hands‑on role is responsible for maintaining the critical systems that keep a nationally recognized healthcare campus operating safely and efficiently. Working alongside experienced Journeyman HVAC Mechanics, this position offers the opportunity to expand technical skills while supporting the comfort and safety of patients, visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs preventive maintenance and basic repairs on HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical systems.
  • Assists with troubleshooting, equipment installations and system upgrades across campus.
  • Maintains pumps, valves, motors, compressors, controls and related building systems.
  • Completes work orders, preventive maintenance documentation and inventory tracking.
  • Participates in the Facilities on‑call rotation and supports campus operations as needed.
Position Summary

Maintains the integrity of the HVAC equipment with preventative maintenance work orders and minor repairs to various equipment including control valves, pumps, and kitchen appliances. Works closely with the Journeyman HVAC Mechanics through listening and learning, assisting the Journeyman with highly skilled installation of new equipment and repair of existing equipment for all HVAC and refrigeration systems.

  • Communicates effectively with Lead HVAC and Journeymen, understanding assignments and schedules.
  • Maintains mechanical‑electrical equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, controls, fans, and motors.
  • Performs refrigeration maintenance and repairs on small refrigeration equipment and assists the Journeyman with more challenging tasks and new installations.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment and completes documentation in the computer‑based Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • Fills in as part of the on‑call rotation for Facilities.
  • Cleans and maintains HVAC shop tools and equipment, keeping the shop neat, clean, and organized.
  • Communicates needed supplies and reports damaged tools or equipment.
  • Fills out work orders for assigned projects with all necessary information and materials used.

  • Part of the snow removal team, cleaning sidewalks with a shovel during storms.
  • Focuses on attention to detail, setting high standards, and maintaining accountability.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Completion of some HVAC training programs preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of diverse experience in mechanical, electrical or building maintenance skills, including plumbing; 2 years of HVAC education required.
  • Certification: Current Colorado driver’s license required. CFC Refrigerant Recovery Certificate (Universal preferred but at least Type I and Type II) preferred or obtained within 1 year of hire.
Salary Range

$27.54 – $36.42
