About Our Department
The Grounds Department is dedicated to creating and maintaining safe, welcoming, and beautiful outdoor spaces that enhance the experience of everyone who visits Denver Public Library. Through sustainable landscape management, proactive maintenance, and a commitment to exceptional service, our team helps ensure library properties remain inviting, functional, and reflective of the community we serve.
We believe that well-maintained grounds contribute to a positive library experience and support DPL's mission by providing clean, accessible, and enjoyable outdoor environments for all.
About Our Position
The Grounds Department is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of the organization's outdoor spaces. Team members work closely with Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, Event Coordinators, and other departments to ensure the grounds are clean, well-maintained, and ready for daily activities and special events.
On a day-to-day basis, responsibilities include mowing and trimming lawns, planting and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flower beds, operating and maintaining landscaping equipment, removing litter and debris, irrigating landscaped areas, and performing seasonal tasks such as snow removal or leaf collection. Grounds staff also inspect outdoor areas for safety hazards, complete routine maintenance and repairs, and respond to work orders to support a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for employees, visitors, and the community.
What You Would Bring
* Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial irrigation systems
* Knowledge of irrigation controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, pumps, and drip irrigation systems
* Understanding of irrigation system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and water management practices
* Ability to read irrigation plans, blueprints, and system layouts
* Familiarity with basic plumbing, electrical components, and PVC pipe installation and repair
* Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and irrigation testing equipment
* Knowledge of safe work practices, including equipment operation and job site safety
* Ability to prioritize maintenance tasks and respond promptly to irrigation system issues
* Strong attention to detail to ensure efficient water use and system performance
