This position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.
Supervision Exercised and Received:
These positions report directly to the Water Treatment Maintenance Supervisor. Utility Mechanic I/II positions do not supervise others. A Senior Utility Mechanic may lead the work of 1-2 maintenance personnel on a project.

• Methods, materials, and tools used in the repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery, including pumps, valves, and motors.
• Principles and practices of water systems and water treatment.
• Preventive maintenance techniques related to water systems and water treatment facilities, equipment, and machinery.
• Safe work practices and procedures.
• Electrical systems and controls, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Hydraulic systems and components.
• Welding and fabrication techniques.
• Relevant federal, state, and local regulations and standards, including OSHA and EPA guidelines.
• SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and their operation.
• Basic principles of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Emergency response procedures for water facilities.
• Environmental and safety regulations specific to water treatment.

• Perform complex and routine maintenance and repair tasks involving pumps, valves, motors, and other equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Develop and implement effective preventive maintenance programs and schedules.
• Operate a variety of tools and equipment safely and efficiently, including welding and fabrication equipment.
• Accurately read and record data from charts, gauges, and meters.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions with clarity and precision.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong collaborative skills.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Respond promptly to emergency call-backs on a rotating, on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.

• Continuously improve maintenance processes and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior team members.
