Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Minor Shelter Life Skills Manager will be responsible for providing direct supervision of youth at the Urban Peak Minor Shelter program. This includes ongoing engagement, assessment, intervention, and ensuring client safety by providing the delivery of appropriate and effective program services in a positive environment. Duties include supervision of youth in accordance with facility rules and regulations, youth intakes, assessments, crisis phone counseling, client data collection, documentation, file maintenance, and supporting the Minor Shelter Case Manager with completing Discharge information.

This position also involves communication with the Minor Shelter Case Manager and with the youth's family, if applicable, and working with the youth and Shelter team towards program termination within 21 days of entry. The Minor Life Skills Manager will assist with reporting maintenance issues and ensuring that the program is facilitated in a manner that meets Urban Peak's mission.

The Minor Shelter Life Skills Manager will work with youth ages 12-17 who are enrolled in Urban Peak's Minor shelter program who are experiencing homelessness. The acuity of clients varies based on mental and physical health needs, and unique histories of trauma. The priority for these clients will be family reunification or, if not possible, referring to other systems of care within 21 days of program entry.

This position will ensure that interactions, interventions, and environments at Urban Peak are trauma informed and will emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff.

Who You Are:
  • Two (2) years of college; OR a high school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in the human services field.
  • Able to connect and work effectively with a diverse, resistant street youth population
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment, set clear and appropriate boundaries with youth
  • Knowledge and understanding issues of the homeless adolescent population, mental health issues, and substance abuse among high-risk young adults
  • Provide services that are trauma informed, appropriate, and effective
  • Problem solving skills (multi-tasking, assessment, organization and prioritization)
  • Team oriented and able to coordinate with various departments and staff
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve encouraged but not required
  • Must be QMAP certified or eligible for QMAP certification
  • Ability to use second language in written and verbal communication desired (Spanish, Vietnamese, ASL)
  • Must be computer proficient and possess experience of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Understanding of the provision of and commitment to trauma-informed care and positive youth development
  • Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak's auto liability policy in order to conduct business on behalf of the agency or transport youth using an Urban Peak vehicle and/or an approved personal vehicle
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Must pass pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) screening
  • Provide proof of education (HS Diploma OR Official Transcripts)

  • Accurately document admission record and record actual services received by clients
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on an ongoing basis
  • Document relevant and significant events that occur during the shift in the Communication Log
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with other staff regarding clients
  • Ensures client confidentiality through the safe and secure storage of client information.
  • Completes thorough intakes in a manner that begins to establish comfort and trusting relationships.
  • During intake, assesses the level of need and makes recommendations regarding youth's involvement in Urban Peak.
  • Establish plans with youth, ensures follow through, and makes appropriate referrals.
