School Social Worker (Attendance)
Job SummaryOperating under the direction of the Mental Health Promotion Coordinator, this position provides Tier III social work services with a focus on behavioral health, family engagement, and attendance support. The role emphasizes identifying and removing barriers to school attendance through assessment, intervention, home visits, and coordination with school teams and community providers. This position aligns with MTSS systems to improve student engagement, increase attendance, and ensure coordinated supports for students and families.
StudentSupport, Attendance Intervention, and Service Delivery
- Conduct individual and group assessments and evaluations in accordance with IDEA, ECEA, and district procedures, including behavioral health and attendance-related factors impacting student engagement.
- Provide Tier III interventions for students experiencing chronic absenteeism and truancy, including identifying barriers to attendance and developing targeted intervention plans.
- Deliver direct and indirect counseling and intervention services addressing attendance, mental health, family circumstances, peer conflict, and crisis situations.
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.
- Conduct home visits to assess environmental factors, engage families, and support problem‑solving related to attendance and student well‑being.
- Develop and implement individualized, measurable goals and interventions to address identified social, emotional, behavioral, and attendance needs.
- Facilitate IEP eligibility and reevaluation meetings, interpret assessment results, and provide recommendations to staff, families, and student support teams.
- Assist staff in developing classroom and instructional strategies that support student regulation, engagement, and consistent school attendance.
- Refer students and families to appropriate community‑based services and coordinate wraparound supports to address barriers such as mental health, housing, transportation, and basic needs.
- Collaborate with school teams, attendance advocates, and district staff to develop, implement, and monitor Student Support Plans aligned to MTSS.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams (IEP, MTSS, 504, and student support teams) to address academic, behavioral, mental health, and attendance needs.
- Serve as a liaison between school, family, and community agencies to ensure coordinated services and continuity of care.
- Monitor student progress using attendance, behavioral, and engagement data; adjust interventions accordingly.
- Support school and district attendance initiatives and prevention efforts to improve engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism.
- Develop and deliver professional learning opportunities for staff and families on topics such as behavior management, trauma‑informed practices, social‑emotional learning, and child abuse prevention.
- Provide crisis intervention and support related to trauma, abuse, neglect, suicidal ideation, and other safety concerns, following district protocols.
- Coordinate with mental health providers, Handle With Care, and co‑response systems to support student safety and well‑being.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations (including FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA).
- Complete case notes, progress monitoring, IEP documentation, Medicaid billing, and required reporting within established timelines.
- Prepare clear, concise reports including assessment results, intervention plans, and progress updates.
- Interpret medical, psychological, educational, and social history information as relevant to student access, engagement, and educational performance.
- Use attendance, behavioral, and progress monitoring data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and inform services and supports.
- Ensure coordination with Medicaid processes and work in collaboration with the Medicaid Coordinator as applicable.
