Job Overview

The Shelter Coordinator position provides rotating 30‑minute break time coverage to Shelter program staff in the Denver Metro Area Shelters. This role travels to assigned sites to relieve staff during break periods and is responsible for managing the facility while covering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures program participants’ voices are heard and, when appropriate, their ideas play a prominent role in programming.
  • Maintains in‑depth knowledge of program requirements, referral processes, support services, and field best practices.
  • Documents all participant interactions with required eligibility and demographic information.
  • Maintains confidentiality and participates effectively within and across teams.
  • Ensures physical and emotional safety of all participants, managing conflicts and contacting emergency personnel as needed.
  • Provides general facility maintenance, including cooking, cleaning, supply management, building walk‑throughs, rule enforcement, and alarm checks.
  • Assists in training and supervising volunteers during shifts and ensures proper documentation.
  • Conducts front desk duties, answering phone calls, taking messages, implementing intakes, and handling donations and bus passes when applicable.
  • Mentors junior personnel to develop knowledge and best practices; may train staff assigned to shift.
  • Performs all responsibilities in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements
  • Single‑staffed facility with responsibility for participant safety.
  • Required to move stairs regularly during shift and in emergencies.
  • Some lifting required, rarely exceeding 50 lbs.
Position Type and Hours

This is a permanent, part‑time position. Shelter Support Coordinators are expected to stay single‑staffed for the entirety of their shift unless coverage is arranged. All staff are considered essential and required to work scheduled shifts regardless of holidays or inclement weather. On‑call protocol is to be used if shift cannot be fulfilled.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience in human services.
  • One year of direct human service experience.
  • Good organizational, planning, and teamwork skills; can work independently.
  • Complete program credentialing process, including criminal and civil background checks within 30 days of hire and fingerprinting.
  • Willingness to obtain first aid, AED, CPR, and Narcan utilization training.
  • Must possess a Colorado driver’s license and state‑mandated automobile insurance.
  • Must have a personal vehicle that may be used for work‑related travel; mileage reimbursement available.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, severe and persistent mental health concerns, and case management or shelter experience.
  • Crisis intervention skills.
