Position: Life Skill Managers

Overview

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Life Skills Managers will supervise youth at Urban Peak Denver shelter and/or housing programs. Responsibilities include increasing self‑efficacy, reducing risky behavior, ensuring client safety, delivering program services, maintaining a safe and positive environment, crisis intervention, facilities maintenance, group facilitation, promotion of a therapeutic environment, and accurate data collection and entry. The role ensures all interactions and environments are trauma‑informed and prioritize physical and emotional safety for youth and staff.

Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of college; or a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in the human services field.
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve is encouraged but not required.
  • Ability to connect and work effectively with a diverse, resistant street youth population.
  • Exercise discretion, independent judgment, and set clear and appropriate boundaries with youth.
  • Knowledge of homeless adolescent population, mental health issues, and substance abuse among high‑risk young adults.
  • Provide trauma‑informed, appropriate, and effective services.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills (multitasking, assessment, organization, and prioritization).
  • Team oriented and able to coordinate with various departments and staff.
  • Commitment to trauma‑informed care.
  • Must be QMAP certified or eligible for QMAP certification.
  • Proficiency in a second language (Spanish, Vietnamese, ASL) desired.
  • Computer proficient, experienced with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy for transportation duties.
  • Pass federal and state background checks, pre‑employment TB screening, and physical examination.
  • Provide proof of education (HS Diploma or official transcripts).
What You Will Do
  • Documentation:
    • Accurately document admission records and services received.
    • Maintain accurate data continuously.
    • Document significant events in the communication log.
    • Ensure client confidentiality via secure storage of information.
    • Complete thorough intakes establishing comfort and trusting relationships.
    • Assess need and make recommendations regarding youth involvement.
    • Establish plans, ensure follow‑through, and make referrals.
  • Youth Supervision:
    • Provide milieu supervision and ensure youth and environmental safety.
    • Ensure youth cleanliness of the shelter environment.
    • Provide direction and support for daily chores and milieu activities.
    • Maintain a welcoming presence and support youth upon arrival.
  • Assessments:
    • Collect and record intake information reflecting client needs.
    • Assess appropriateness of client admission and forward data to intake supervisor.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Provide crisis intervention and de‑escalation support, including verbal and physical altercations, and phone counseling as needed.
  • Case Management:
    • Facilitate group activities and discussions.
    • A limited caseload may be assigned as primary case manager if credentials permit.
    • Additional case management meetings may be required.

    • Shift: Wednesday 8 AM–6 PM and Thursday–Saturday 11 AM–9 PM
