Weekly Hybrid Working Arrangements
Minimum 2 days in office, maximum 3 days remote work
This position serves as the family engagement authority regarding services provided across the DYS continuum, including program and policy development and problem solving when conflicts arise. It is instrumental in ensuring that youth and families have a voice in Division wide change initiatives and DYS policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Implement the risk, needs and responsivity approach as related to youth and family services.
- Design and monitor case management tools and forms.
- Provide guidance to Juvenile justice processes for Aggravated Juvenile Offenders (AJO), Violent Offenders, and offense‑specific youth.
- Engage with family support systems and representatives.
- Apply Motivational Interviewing techniques.
- Maintain ongoing family engagement and support.
- Apply laws and rules related to the Children’s Code and DYS policies.
- Advise on Youth Rights and Responsibilities.
- Manage policy related to family engagement, involvement, and visitation.
- Participate in external committees that partner with DYS or operate within CDHS.
- Advise on DYS procedures and practices to articulate DYS to external partners.
- Participate in community forums to inform the public of regionally based programs and services.
- Support families that contract with DYS and assist other families involved.
- Represent DYS on committees specific to family engagement and involvement.
- Work with external agencies and CDHS partnering divisions.
- Assist youth and families in regions and youth centers with preparedness for community return.
- Collaborate with transition specialists within youth centers.
- Oversee implementation of consistent youth and family‑centered practices in the Division’s transition processes statewide.
- Collaborate with family representatives involved with the Family Advisory Council and Family Support Groups.
- Support families in understanding the Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) process.
- Facilitate the Family Engagement committee composed of DYS professionals, CDHS representation, and family members.
- Work closely with the Regional Services Administrator to support families’ understanding of the juvenile justice system.
- Shadow and learn interactions between CDYC and DYS staff with families.
- Develop trust with families and seek engagement and feedback from Family Support Groups and Family Advisory Councils.
- Implement change management principles around youth and family support within DYS youth centers, regions, and CYDC.
- Collaborate with regional and youth center representatives to lead change initiatives.
- Create curriculum for DYS staff on family engagement.
- Coach and guide champions during change implementation.
- Provide on‑site support to youth and families staff during change initiatives.
- Analyze, review, consolidate, and streamline Division policy specific to youth and family engagement.
- Develop an organized approach to outreach with DYS updates supporting families of both detained and committed youth.
- Maintain understanding of CYDC case management and DYS client management.
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience relating to this role.
- Experience in case management and/or working within the Juvenile Justice System.
- Knowledge of the Children’s Code and DYS policies.
- Experience working with families in the community and/or in out‑of‑home placements.
- Proficiency in Google Office.
- Group facilitation skills preferred.
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Trauma‑Informed Care and/or Response.
- Full background checks including CBI, fingerprint, court database, Medicare fraud, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, Trails, and CAPS.
- Motor vehicle record check; position requires use of a state fleet or non‑state fleet vehicle.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Current, valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license required.
- Travel required to state‑wide regional offices and meetings.
- Disciplinary history disclosed if prior termination or resignation.
- Successful completion of mandatory DYS training programs.
- Completion of the Diana Screening tool.
