Youth And Family Services Coordinator
This position is open only to Colorado state residents. The Division of Youth Services (DYS) Central Office includes all of Central Division Administration, activities and responsibilities related to the management and oversight of State-operated youth centers, regional office operations, and privately contracted residential and non-residential services for detained and committed youth. DYS administers a community-based system that includes case management, parole services and the Colorado Youth Detention Continuum (CYDC).
The Regional Services unit is responsible for the oversight, guidance and direction of the Client Management, DYS Family Involvement and Juvenile Parole systems. This position is supervised by the Regional Services Administrator and provides support within the regions and state youth centers. In addition to internal support, this position is responsible for focusing on family involvement with youth in the Division.
This position serves as the family engagement authority regarding services provided across the DYS continuum including program and policy development and problem solving when conflicts arise. This position is instrumental in youth and families having a voice in Division wide change initiatives and DYS policies and procedures. This position allows for the youth and families to work with a Division employee that is outside of a facility and provide support at pivotal times in the youth's detainment/commitment.
The position supports DYS staff with developing new avenues of inclusion of families and providing opportunities for professional development for staff in understanding the youth and families we serve. This position works to establish working relationships with families involved with the Division as well as collaborating with CDHS agency partners to best serve our youth and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement the risk, needs and responsivity approach as related to youth and family services.
- Designing/monitoring case management tools and forms.
- Provide guidance to Juvenile justice processes required for Aggravated Juvenile Offenders (AJO), Violent Offenders, and Offense Specific youth.
- Involvement with family support systems and representatives
- Motivational Interviewing
- Ongoing family engagement.
- Recruitment and connection with community providers & other state agencies involved with youth and families
- Laws and rules related to the ongoing provision of the Children's Code and DYS policies.
- Youth Rights and Responsibilities
- Policy related to family engagement, involvement, and/or visitation
Other duties that may arise during the course of day-to-day operations.
- Support transition services provided in youth centers to prepare youth and families for re-integration to the community.
- Provide Support to families in parole hearings
- Maintain Parole Radios and Colorado State Patrol contrac
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed below to continue in the selection process for this position. Work experience must be specifically documented on your application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SUBSTITUTIONS, CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & APPEAL RIGHTS:
- Seven (7) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
- A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to seven (7) years

- Full Background CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
- MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD CHECK:
This position will drive a state fleet or non-state fleet vehicle for State business purposes. - Be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Current/Valid and non-restricted CO Driver's License
- Travel – This position requires travel to state-wide regional offices as well as attending meetings at different locations. This position will require the ability to be physically present at the various region locations across the state to meet regional needs. This position will have access to vehicles at the Central Office and will need to have the ability to travel throughout the work week
- Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
