Lead Software Development Engineer - Lunar Permanence

Overview

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will work with software development engineers and other discipline teams to develop the next generation platform for systems and software development across our Lunar programs. The platform will directly impact upcoming missions. Software is central to space vehicle development, so collaboration with other discipline teams will be important. You will also have long-term vision and strategy for the products to sustain lunar missions.

• Work with developers and program managers to architect and develop full-stack web applications.
• Train, guide, and mentor team members on full-stack development best practices.
• Set direction and goals for the team regarding the platform architecture and influence the feature roadmap.
• Collect and analyze customer data to understand and troubleshoot application usage and performance.
• Deeply understand the safety-critical software development process and identify tooling opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

• B.S. or higher in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8 years professional experience minimum.
• Experience in developing and architecting full-stack applications.
• Experience improving application stability through monitoring, analysis, thoughtful code reviews, and detailed feedback.
• Experience in database design (SQL, No

• Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Next, or similar).
• Experience constructing RESTful APIs (Python, NodeJS, or Go).
• Experience with data engineering pipelines.
• Experience with unit testing and test-driven development.
• Experience with Linux, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Experience using configuration-as-code tools to manage cloud resources and workstations (e.g., Ansible, Vagrant, Terraform, Kubernetes).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proven understanding of source control tools and concepts such as Git workflows, versioning, and branching.

• Experience with application performance monitoring and observability technologies (Datadog, ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Experience with Agile methodologies;
  Aerospace industry experience with safety-critical software and/or tools qualification activities.
