Lead Software Engineer – Denver, CO

Multiple positions available.

• Coordinate with business and product teams to establish requirements of the cross‑border money transfer ecosystem (8%).
• Assess business needs while providing creative and effective solutions in conformance to emerging technology standards (8%).
• Design and implement complex, multi‑tier distributed software systems throughout all phases of the software development process (16%).
• Apply Agile methodology daily and follow Definition of Done (DOD) process to maintain 80% unit test coverage and 70% integration coverage (8%).
• Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and roll out applications with cross‑functional impacts (10%).
• Develop high‑quality, maintainable, scalable code adhering to established coding standards and best practices (8%).
• Actively participate in peer code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to design principles and quality guidelines (8%).
• Apply secure coding principles throughout the development lifecycle to mitigate security vulnerabilities (8%).
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of software design patterns and principles to create efficient and resilient solutions (8%).
• Proactively identify and address technical debt to maintain a healthy codebase and systems (10%).
• Interface and collaborate with project management, engineering leadership, release management, and distributed development teams to deliver quality product features on schedule (8%).

Telecommuting may be permitted up to 2 days per week. When not telecommuting, the employee must report to Western Union, LLC at 7001 East Belleview Ave, Denver, CO 80237.

Salary: $164,112 – $242,614 per year.

• Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Applied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Application, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, plus 7 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or any occupation/job title implementing backend solutions.
• In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of experience, a Master’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Applied Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Application, Electronic Engineering, or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or any occupation/job title implementing backend solutions.
• 5 years of professional experience utilizing computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP), and Object‑Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/D).
• 5 years of professional experience utilizing modern programming languages (including Java or Python) and design patterns.
• 5 years of professional experience utilizing HTTP, XML, and JSON.
• 4 years of professional experience utilizing Agile development methodologies with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment).
• 3 years of professional experience assessing business needs while providing creative and effective solutions in conformance to emerging technology standards.
• 3 years of professional experience leveraging unit testing and mocking frameworks to ensure code quality and maintainability.
• 3 years of professional experience utilizing AWS Cloud Services, including EC2, S3, EKS, and API Gateway.
• 3 years of professional experience utilizing Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, Kafka, SOAP, and RESTful web services.
